Focus Down-Under: Economic Breakfast Briefing with National Australia Bank and the Bank of New Zealand

Ivan Colhoun, Chief Economist, Markets, National Australia Bank

Ivan is Chief Economist, Markets for National Australia Bank. He joined NAB in November 2014 and is responsible for the Australian Economics function within the Global Markets Research team. Ivan has had a long and varied career in Economics.

He received a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Tasmania and commenced his career at the Reserve Bank of Australia. He spent 15 years at Deutsche Bank before following his passion for aviation by joining Qantas as Chief Economist. Most recently, Ivan was Chief Economist for Australia for ANZ Bank. He has also consulted to SEEK, Virgin Australia and IATA and is a member of Tourism Australia’s Tourism Forecasting Committee.

 

Nick Smyth, Interest Rate Strategist, Bank of New Zealand

Nick was appointed as Interest Rate Strategist for Bank of New Zealand in November 2017. He specialises in producing analysis that informs views on domestic interest rate markets, spanning government bonds, corporate bonds, supra-national bonds and derivatives. Nick is also part of National Australia Bank Group’s Global Strategy team, which covers interest rates markets more broadly, with a particular focus on US, European and Australian rates markets.

His most recent role at UBS Asset Management in London saw him working as a Portfolio Manager for the Global Sovereign and Currency team. He has also worked at the Bank of England as a Manager in the Reserves Management team and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand where he was a Portfolio Manager within the Foreign Reserves Management team. Nick holds a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Canterbury.

 

Bronwyn Curtis OBE, Board Member, Australia-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce and Chairman, JP Morgan Asian Investment Trust

Bronwyn Curtis OBE is the Chairman of the JP Morgan Asian Investment Trust PLC and a Non-Executive Director at Scottish American Investment Co PLC and Mercator Media Ltd.

Bronwyn’s previous roles have included Head of European Broadcasting at Bloomberg LP and Chief Economist for Nomura International.
